“ This squad tournament is going to be one to remember. If you missed worlds then this was your second chance! Only thing better than playing was meeting and getting to know players from all around the country. Already looking forward to next years big event! ”
“ I enjoyed the format about this new squads setup is game-changing. It's so much fun and brings people together. I absolutely LOVE it. ”
“ This event was the funnest roundnet event I have ever attended. Not only was it a blast and a half but I felt closer to everyone in the roundnet community than ever before. I felt as though the squad format eliminated the nerves and hostility that can sometimes take place when it is just 2v2. Plus you got to play a lot more games so the fun continued on for the whole weekend! ”
“ I LOVED the team feeling and aspect, I think the courts added to that a lot, it was unlike any roundnet event out there! It was also an amazing opportunity for players that aren’t at the top level to play some of the best because of the ranking and squad system. Like I got to play Buddy and Gabe which I probably never would have the opportunity to, that’s amazing! This event is AMAZING! There is nothing like the team atmosphere this format creates! ”
“ COME TO THE PLAYOFFS it is so unique and a new format and it’s a super cool and fun way to play roundnet like never before! Instead of playing with one other person you pay with 6! 6 of your friends all playing together for a title! It’s so much fun!! DO NOT MISS IT ”
“ We really enjoyed the squads format - when two teams were evenly matched, every game was super close and really intense! A lot of matches (5 out of 9, to be exact) we’re decided by 1 game that went to 15-14!! It made each game really exciting to play or watch. Aside from our games, it was really cool to just be a part of something new. I think our sport really needs innovation and new thinking to push and grow the sport. The event really helped to build the Roundnet community. When you play in a regular tournament with 200+ people, you maybe get to play against 10-20 new people. In this event, we got to meet so many new people, and that just helps build the community. ”
“ Loved getting to play with all different teammates and getting to play tons of different players ”
“ ASL Squads format was the most fun roundnet I've ever played! I'm excited to go back next time and play people from all over again! I enjoyed the squad vs squad format, much more exciting facing 7 different players of varying skill levels, plus the strategy behind picking/matching ”
“ This is an essential event for any high school club, squad, or team that actually wants to play as a team. The strategy and teamwork that go into the ASL structure is revolutionary and unmatched by any other form of tournament structure. We wish that every single tournament we played in had this structure and organization. ”
“ The American Spikers Program Playoffs was a great opportunity to compete against top players from around the country as well as WITH top players in my own state. The best part about this event was the sense of team spirit and involvement within the Roundnet community. ”
“ It was the most well-run roundnet tournament we maybe have ever been to. So well-organized, such a clear schedule. Loved all that. Also, the match structure is pretty revolutionary for our team. Just played in a normal tournament a weekend after Henderson, and it was kind of a buzzkill. Alex and Kaleb super clear communicating everything about the event. Love the whole "sit down" when going through rules to just hold everyone accountable. You guys were available whenever needed both days and worked effectively and with purpose. Love the pace! ”
“ This was the most fun I've had at a tournament in my entire 5 year round net career! Very well organized, Even if I played bad for a game my team could carry me! ”
“ I'm 44 years old, and have fallen in love with roundnet. I get to play in the league and because of the format I get to learn a lot more compared to a regular tourney where when I lose with the same partner, I'm done. ”
“ I enjoyed playing against teams that I would otherwise never see. Your eyes are opened wider than ever when you play with people from other states and countries ”
“ This tourney is different than any other around. It really tests the depth of a team because the top guys can only carry so much. ”
“ I enjoyed playing with more people throughout the day, and feeling like a part of team/cheering other squad members on ”
“ I enjoyed the fun community. Location. The sport. The amount of games played. Very well done. ”
“ The shifting squad format was excited to learn and bond with all of your teammates ”
“ It was truly an event to remember. One that will go down in the history books. The way programs and community’s were able to grow through this set up was truly incredible. The community is always my favorite reasons to come to any Spikeball event but to be able to do it with more then one other person is a great way to connect a community and make life long friends. ”
“ Loved the squad format! So cool to compete with 6 teammates instead of just 1. ”
“ I loved the team aspect of the whole thing. You really needed to get everyone on the same page. ”
“ I enjoyed getting to play with multiple partners. ”
“ Loved the innovation of the format. ”
“ I enjoyed getting to meet some really amazing players and how our team came together. I liked the format of getting to play with different people throughout the tournament. ”
“ It was a really cool event, with lots of programs from different areas of the country and beyond showing up. It was cool socializing with all of them and having top notch competition. Shorter match times were a definite plus, and it was more efficient than tournaments in the past ”
“ The squad dynamic created a very fun, supportive environment. Having to strategize was also a fun added element to the game. ”
“ Getting to play with all of my friends and not against them. Also how much we got to play. It was a lot, like a lot. But we got our moneys worth. ”
“ I enjoyed the squad format and camaraderie. ”
“ Playing a strategic game aside from the actual skill. So not always the best players won. ”
“ I thought it was very fun and run well. ”
“ Format was very fun, great to meet new people and constantly play different teams ”
“ I enjoyed the friendliness, the competition, what was on the line, and just how much fun it was to interact with people from around the country and play tons of roundnet!! ”
“ It was fun to play with different partners of different skill levels and still have competitive games. ”
“ I enjoyed the format with varying teammates for each game and the strategy associated with that ”
“ I enjoyed the amount of people it brought in from different areas! The opportunity it provided to play with and against so many different people in one tournament! ”
“ I enjoyed the setup. Playing with teammates. ”
“ Awesome event that showcases the very best of the roundnet community. Made a ton of new friends that I'll have to come back to the event next year to visit. I enjoyed the format!!!! Was a blast playing with/against some top players as a contender. I like the regional aspect a lot. ”
The most exciting way to play roundnet! (*Keep in mind there are only 7-person teams this year)
WHAT ARE THE PLAYOFFS?
This is the most epic 2-day squad tournament in the history of the sport. This is where registered clubs, send 7 player squads to represent their program and battle, using the famous ASL squad format, in an attempt to bring home a Playoff championship.
HOW IS THE FORMAT DIFFERENT?
Normally in a tournament, you play with the same partner the entire time. At the playoffs though, you’ll take turns playing with different players on your team against a variety of pairs from other teams.
This is one of the coolest parts of the tourney. This creates loads of strategy and ultimate team unity!
•With this format, a player can have a bad game, and your squad can still win the match.
•You get to use strategy to outcoach your opponent with your lineups!
•You are more invested in all the games around you. You have lots to cheer for all the time. This makes the tournament extremely fun!
HOW A MATCH WORKS:
•During the match there will be 3 nets on the field where each squad sends out various combinations of players to compete over the course of 4 quarters or 2 halves. Also known as rounds.
•Before the first quarter, Squad A, will go first in assigning their players to the 3 nets on the field.
•Then after Squad A places their players, Squad B will match and assign their players to each of the 3 nets on the field.
•After the net assignments are made, the playing then begins. The players battle it out on each net trying to win their game. A win on a net is worth 1 match point with 3 points up for grabs every quarter.
•Once all 3 games are finished, the scores are recorded, and it’s on to the next quarter/round.
•The two squads alternate each quarter, on who assigns their players first and who matches.
WHAT MAKES UP A SQUAD?
•A squad is made up of exactly 7 players
•Before the tourney, each team will rank their players 1-7, based on skill.
•Ranking them is simple. Just ask the question. “Which player on my squad would I want playing on the final game of the tourney if $6,000 were on the line?” Whoever that is, would be your #1, then whoever would be next would be your #2 and so forth.
•Be careful to do this correctly. The ASL has rules in place, that if a squad doesn’t rank their players this way, could cost them matches, and a championship. Especially with the new overtime rules. Trust us! You’ll want your best players in the right spot.
MAKING PLAYER ASSIGNEMENTS DURING THE MATCH:
There are three main rules/concepts when assigning players to the 3 nets that make the ASL squad format so popular!
First is the “Pair score” and the “Net Variance”:
•When you add up the rankings of the two players assigned to a net it creates what we call the “Pair score”. For example, on net 1, Squad A assigned their #2 player and their #7 player to play together. When you add those rankings up, you get a pair score of 9.
•When squad B is assigning players to this net, they can only assign/match two players who have a pair score within 3 points of squad A’s pair score. This 3 point range up or down is called the net variance.”
Next rule is the Pair limit rule:
•This rule means that you can’t have the same two people play together in two consecutive games during a match.
Final rule is the Sub rotation rule:
•The sub rotation rule means that a player may not sub out a second time, until everyone on the squad has subbed out at least once.
ASL'S PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE MAKES THIS ALL POSSIBLE
To make all this easy to navigate, the ASL has created its own proprietary software that runs the match for you.
•It shows the rosters.
•Lets you make player assignments.
•Prevents illegal assignments.
•Keeps scores.
•And talks to the other team during a match.
It will be available at the playoffs via your mobile device. It’s awesome.

Soft-registration means a player registers but does not have to pay at the time they register. This locks in their price and secures thier spot on your squad. They can pay at registration or later.
Players who have paid can request a full refund until December 1st. After this date, refunds are no longer available. However, up until January 1st, players can receive an in-store credit for next year's playoffs or other large ASL events. After January 1st, there will be no refunds or credits offered.
This policy is in place because cancellations beyond January 1st create significant challenges in coordinating teams, prizes, event schedules, and material purchases.
All squads will need exactly 7 players on their roster. There will be no 8-person teams this year. This is to ensure that if a player gets hurt, your squad is not forfeiting games. Additionally, it's more fun to rotate and match players when you have a sub available every round.
Our goal is to help motivate clubs to strengthen their local player base. These rules and boundaries are designed to encourage each club to put in extra effort to find players closer to home. This approach will help expand the roundnet player base across all divisions.
Additionally, interclub competition becomes more exciting when players live in the same area, fostering healthy rivalries and a stronger sense of community.
Players who fall into this category may play for the club closest to them, provided they meet the required number of boundary players for the division in question.
Player exemptions to the ASL’s boundary rules are extremely rare and will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. Any player residing outside of a club's boundary must obtain prior approval to participate, or they will be ruled ineligible. All requests for exemptions must be submitted to playoffs@americanspikers.com before the event.
Exemptions will almost never be approved under the following conditions:
Because exemptions are highly unlikely, please plan accordingly.
Premier Player Eligibility:
Players who were qualified as Premier during the 2024 season will retain their Premier status for this event.
Contender Player Classification:
All players who held Premier status before 2024 but have since lost it are now considered Contender players.
Squad Composition Rules:
Advancement to Premier Status:
Player Eligibility Based on Residency:
A player's eligibility is strictly determined by their residency during 2024.
Residency Requirements:
Exception Requests:
An exception may be considered for players who moved within 4 weeks of the tournament start date. Examples include:
Exception requests must be submitted to playoffs@americanspikers.com with a detailed explanation.
Proof of Residency:
To receive prize money, each player must provide proof of residency that meets the 40-day requirement within their club’s boundary. Acceptable forms of proof include:
Residency Challenges:
If a player's residency is challenged, an investigation will be conducted. If the player is found in violation of the residency rule, their entire squad may be disqualified from the tournament without refund and forfeit all prize eligibility.
Why 7 Players Are Required:
Having 7 players on a squad is essential to ensure the team’s flexibility and ability to compete in all matches. However, there are rules in place if a team is reduced to 5 players.
Playing with Fewer than 6 Players:
What Happens with 6 Players and an Injury:
If your team has 6 available players and one person gets injured, leaving you with only 5 eligible players, you can still continue to play the match. However, you will forfeit 1 of the 3 games in each round where you don't have 6 eligible players.
Possible Match Outcome:
It’s still possible to win the match, but forfeiting games will make it much more challenging to secure a victory.
Why We Encourage Matching Jerseys:
We highly encourage squads to wear matching jerseys. Not only does it make your squad look awesome, but it also creates better photos and videos, making roundnet look more like a professional sport. Please note that squads not in matching jerseys will not be featured in any ASL content.
Custom Jerseys Available:
KBS Apparel is offering fantastic deals on custom jerseys. Stay tuned for more information on these offers.
Adding the Playoff Logo:
You can also add the Playoff Logo to your jerseys. The logo can be found in the captain’s section on the Linktree.
